English abstract:

Thermal stresses and deformations are present and important for many manufacturing processes. Their effect depends strongly on the material behavior. The finite element method has been applied successfully for manufacturing simulations. There are numerical challenges in some cases due to large deformations, strong non-linearities etc. However, the most challenging aspect is the modeling of the material behavior. This requires in many cases coupled constitutive and microstructure models.

Approximate Guarding of Monotone and Rectilinear Polygons

English abstract:

We show that vertex guarding a monotone polygon is NP-hard and construct a constant factor approximation algorithm for interior guarding monotone polygons. Using this algorithm we obtain an approximation algorithm for interior guarding rectilinear polygons that has an approximation factor independent of the number of vertices of the polygon. If the size of the smallest interior guard cover is \OPT\ for a rectilinear polygon, our algorithm produces a guard set of size~$O(\OPT^2)$.

English abstract:	Today's building high demands on high level of knowledge and efficient production. One way to achieve this is to involve the production staff in the planning of the work on the construction site. When all personnel involved this creates the conditions for a learning organization where employees continuously develop their skills and knowledge. For a learning organization to work it requires systematic experience feedback and systems to disseminate knowledge in the learning organization. This article deals with the need for and methods of gathering knowledge and the special requirements for remodeling and renovation
Swedish abstract:	Dagens byggande ställer höga krav på goda kunskaper och effektiv produktion. Ett sätt att uppnå detta är att involvera produktionspersonalen i planeringen av arbetet på byggarbetsplatsen. När hela personalen involveras i detta skapas förutsättningar för en lärande organisation där medarbetarna kontinuerligt utvecklar sin kunskap och kompetens. För att en lärande organisation ska kunna fungera krävs system för erfarenhetsåterföring och system för att sprida kunskap inom den lärande organisationen. I denna artikel behandlas behovet av och metoder för att samla kunskap samt de speciella krav som ställs på ombyggnad och renovering.

English abstract:

To help researchers in building a knowledge foundation of their research fields which could be a time-consuming process, the authors have developed a Cross Tabulation Search Engine (CTSE). Its purpose is to assist researchers in 1) conducting research surveys, 2) efficiently and effectively retrieving information (such as important researchers, research groups, keywords), and also 3) providing analytical information relating to past and current research trends in a particular field. Their CTSE system employs data-processing technologies and emphasizes the use of a “Learn by Searching” learning strategy to support students to analyze such research trends. To show the effectiveness of CTSE, a pilot experiment has been conducted, where participants were assigned to do research survey tasks and then answer a questionnaire regarding the effectiveness and usability of the system. The results showed that the system has been helpful to students in conducting research surveys, and the research trend transitions that our system presented were effective for producing research trend surveys. Moreover, the results showed that most students had favorable attitudes toward the usage and usability of the system, and those students were satisfied in gaining more know ledge in a particular research field in a short period.

English abstract:

The purpose of this paper is to show the technical feasibility of implementing our mobile context-aware learning schedule (mCALS) framework as a software application on a mobile device using current technologies, prior to its actual implementation. This process draws together a set of compatible mobile and context-aware technologies at present and can be used as a reference point for implementing generic mobile context-aware applications. Our mCALS framework retrieves the learner’s location and available time contexts via the built-in learning schedule (i.e. electronic organizer) on a mobile device. These contexts together with the learner’s learning styles and knowledge level (on a selected topic) are used as the basis for the software application to suggest learning materials that are appropriate for the learner, at the time of usage. This retrieval approach attempts to eliminate the use of context-aware technologies and the need to directly request the user to enter context information at the time of usage. We aim to develop a fully functional prototype of this framework for learners to plan their individual as well as social learning activities amongst one another in order to make their individual learning processes collaborative and as a way to enhance individual and social learning experiences.
