English abstract
The purpose of this written speech about “the dialogic existence of listening” is to contribute to the knowledge about the importance of listening in everyday life, both personal and professional. The object of inquiry is a story about a fictitious person, Gudrun Lyssander, and her experiences and memories of listening in her everyday life and as a teacher in pre-school. The problem showed is: What are the consequences of dialogic listening in everyday life for you and me, for our parents and for our children? The Russian philosopher Mikhail M. Bakhtin (1984 & 1999) and his dialogism (Holquist 2002) is used as a theoretical framework, but I also try to put listening into a larger context of culture and society with soundscape, noise pollution, sound business and technology of sound. Results from the study show that there are a lot of communication situa-tions in everyday life that could be managed and explained from a listening perspective with conceptions like listening reception, listening types and re-ported listening. The conclusions are that we have to control our listening, that listening is the key to success in everyday life, and finally, that listening includes both an economic and a democratic perspective.
