English abstract
This chapter is based on an article presented as a paper at the International Maya Conference, in Xalapa, Mexico, 2002. It evolves around the Katun prophecies in the Books of Chilam Balam, written in the Yucatec Maya language. The contenct of the prophecies are presented and analysed as being expressions of Yucatec Maya emic historiography and the theoretical concept of propheciology is used as an analytical tool in order to grasp the complex time philosophy and also the cyclical view of rituals of power connected to the katun periods.
