Title Accessible distance education; an educational issue?
Author(s) Schenker, Katarina
Date 2003
English abstract
The integrated research, development and training project "Accessibility and learning in higher education" at Malmoe University, is aiming to make higher education more accessible for students with disabilities. One of the first tasks of the project was to formulate the accessibility criteria for distance learning, with the goal of giving more people with disabilities the opportunity of higher education. The criteria, that have both technological and educational characteristics, are presented in full in the article "The design of accessible distance education environments that use collaborative learning" (Schenker & Scadden, 2002). The criteria were tested in a distance pilot course where students with disabilities participated. In this paper the accessibility criteria with educational characteristics, and other factors of educational nature that might have an effect on the accessibility in a distance course are examined.
